I had a chance to spend a Saturday this past June listening to panels of editors remarkable for their editing skills and insights, all part of Manhattan Edit Workshop’s Sight, Sound & Story 2016. What could top off a day hearing from top East coast-based editors, behind now classic series including ‘Breaking Bad’, ‘The Wire’ and ‘Boardwalk Empire’?
You might also want to head directly to the final hour or so, a one-on-one Bobbie O’Steen interview with the remarkable Anne V. Coates (“Lawrence of Arabia”, “The Elephant Man” and “Erin Brockovich”). Coates is still engaging – bubbly even – at 90 years old, and full of good editing room stories you would never hear elsewhere. Be sure to check out MEWshop’s Facebook page if you’d like to hear it straight. (NB: Only the first five panels – starting in the top left corner – cover this year’s Sight Sound & Story event.)
