You don’t have to be a pro editor or even a novice to attend. If you like storytelling with images, there’s really no question but that you will enjoy EditFest New York. Now in its fourth year, the 1 1/2 days of panel discussions deliver a unique chance to hear behind-the-screens secrets from top feature and documentary editors.
“Filmmakers in New York don’t get to participate in as many things compared to those in Los Angeles,” says Jenni McCormick, Executive Director, American Cinema Editors. “(EditFest) has brought film community in New York closer, so they’re developing a real camaraderie now.”
Organized by the honorary American Cinema Editors (ACE) guild and co-produced by Manhattan Edit Workshop (MEWshop), the event launches at the Director’s Guild of America Theater this Friday evening with a talk and cocktail party.
Saturday includes a full day of panels with titles such as The Documentary Edit: Non-Fiction vs. the Truth and Small Screen, Big Show: How Television Has Become the New Independent Film. Among the sessions that adds a unique flavor, check out the one-on-one with editor Christopher Tellefsen From Metropolitan to Moneyball interviewed by the ever-insightful Bobbie O’Steen.
“EditFest NY is a great venue for editors, professional and novice, to share stories and trade secrets from real-world work situations”, says Michael Berenbaum, A.C.E. Berenbaum, editor on Sex and the City and What to Expect When You’re Expecting, is the moderator for this year’s EditFest NY.
